Woman Transforms This Tiny Shed Into A Cozy Family Home And It Is Amazing

Jori Wilkinson is a mom, which means she can be very busy and have responsibilities towards her children. And of course, as a parent your main responsibility is to provide your children with a place to live. Looking at the picture where she is standing in front of the shed, you might think that it is just a tiny place they use to store a few things, but in fact it is much more than that. Indeed, her and her husband actually transformed the shed and turned it into a beautiful family home, so if you see the inside you will be surprised. Indeed, it actually turned out to be the perfect place to raise a family.

Cozy environment

 For you to properly understand the situation, we need to say that the shed had been used by Jori, her husband Gage, and their young son Kash since early 2018. However, if you really look at it, it doesn’t seem to have enough space in order to fit a whole family. In fact, the shed is 400 square feet, which is pretty small given the fact that average American family homes are usually 2,300 square feet. But the family made the most of the small space and decided to set up a greenhouse with fairy lights and hammocks in order to be comfortable hanging out there… A real success!

Making profit

Jori wrote a post on Instagram in 2017 which explained the decision she made with her husband to fix the shed. “So with the housing market on the rise, we decided to make some money by renovating our home and selling it while I was about seven months pregnant! It took us about a month to renovate our floors and kitchen. And I’d done small updates around the house the prior two years of living there”, she wrote. She added: “I had Kash, and the next day we were asked if we could show the house. I was like, ‘Yes of course!’ We ended up showing it a week later and got a full-price offer! We were stoked! We made a good chunk of money for a short-time investment.”

Fixing the shed

Because they just sold their home, the family then had to pack their belongings and head to Jori’s parents. But the plan was a bit of a problem according to the mom. “We were going to buy a fifth-wheel trailer to live in temporarily. But I was just thinking about how bored I’d be without a project”, she commented. But in the end, the couple did find a project – they started to fix this shed. Jori explained: “It hasn’t been easy only having weekends to work on [the shed]. But it’s so worth it! We will have a beautifully designed tiny home we can take wherever we please! Much better than a trailer in my opinion.”

White porch

When you look at the pictures, you might wonder what the shed looks like on the inside – what we can tell you is that it is very impressive. Indeed, it starts with spacious white decking, and benches on the porch to enjoy outside views. In June 2020, Jori said in a Youtube video: “You probably think I’m crazy for having a white porch. But I think it really brightens up this small space that we have here.” But of course, it means there is quite a lot of work. She added: “I do have to repaint [the porch] once or twice a year. But I’m okay with that. [And] I’ve added these curtains, which kind of act as a screened-in porch.”

Tricks

Inside, you get to a living room with a couch, a flat-screen television and a cozy fireplace, which makes it a very nice place to hang out. The fireplace was framed by dark wooden panels, and Jori explained what she did: “I used to have a full-sized mantel. But I had to take it out because the door was hitting it when it would open. [So] I just used some old shiplap and made that false one there.” She also explained how she created the illusion of a window in another room to make the space look bigger. “Right behind [the couch] is an old door that I refinished and put a mirror in”, she said.
