Aside from that, being in a new place where you are not familiar with can seem daunting and it takes some time to get used to it.
Here are some of the things that can help you transition into a new neighborhood.
Making The First Move
As said above, you're going to meet new people and you want to leave a good impression because you'll being seeing them from now on. You may feel shy and awkward at first but you also have to know that they may feel the exact same thing so go ahead and exhibit some of that people skill you have.
It wouldn't take much of your time; a simple hello would suffice along with an introduction of yourself and where you're from. You can also add a "have a nice day" by the end for a more personal touch and you wouldn't believe how appreciative people can get.
Be Approachable
Don't give anybody an hawk eye look because you'll come off as unfriendly. Give a little smile every now and then to your neighbor as it wouldn't hurd ti widen your mouth a little. If a neighbor or a person from the community seem like they want to strike up a conversation, give them the chance.
Becoming A Local
Now that you're officially a local, try going to a local restaurant or attend the farmers market. Shop around at local gift shops and or frequent other establishments that gives you the chance to meet others and enjoy your new surroundings. You can also check out if there's a beach nearby or if there are any quirky alley you need to check pout real soon. This is a way to make you acquainted not only with the people but also with what's going on around because you might not now but there is something in this community that you like better than your previous one.
Becoming Involved
Go to various activities that you like or better yet attend activities that are unfamiliar to you and surprise yourself. This is a fun and educational way to learn more about your neighborhood. In each community, there are activities that you can choose from to join. You can look for new activities in schools, park districts, sports commissions, museum or any other organizations that you can think of. If you have new friends, they may even ask you to come with them in their next meetup.
Your Network
You may already belong to a group from your previous neighborhood and now you learend that they have a chapter in your new community so this gives you the opportunity to continue what you have started only in a different surroundings and with new people. You may even have Facebook friends from the area so here is your chance to finally meet them in person.
Don't Stress
It's just normal to feel a little tensed meeting new people and being in a new environment. But take the iniatiative and go out of your comfort zone. Your new place is a venue for you to take on a new creativity and hobbies. It is a place where you'll get to meet new people who will play new roles in your new life. So breathe out the anxiety and give out the best version of yourself and introduce him/her to your new neighbors.
